Mouser Electronics is now shipping the PAN1326 and PAN1316 Host Controlled Interface Bluetooth modules from Panasonic Electronic Components.
These extremely small Bluetooth devices require only a small button battery and target Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as fitness sensors, smart watches, and healthcare accessories. These modules are packaged in a tiny module of only 85.5mm² and are 100% pin compatible with Panasonic's previous generation of Bluetooth Classic devices.
The Panasonic PAN1326 and PAN1316 Host Controlled Interface Bluetooth modules, available from Mouser Electronics, are designed to exhibit best-in-class Bluetooth RF performance for transmission, reception, sensitivity, and blocking. The PAN1326 and PAN1316 are fully qualified Bluetooth modules and conform to Bluetooth v4.0 EDR. Energy consumption of these small low energy modules is only a tenth of Classic Bluetooth modules. These Panasonic Bluetooth Low Energy modules can be put into a sleep mode and only activated for event activities such as transferring files or data. Maximum power consumption is less than 15mA and average power consumption is about 1uA. With these low power requirements, a small coin cell battery such as a CR2032 is capable of powering this device for up to 10 years of operation.
The PAN1326/1316 is controlled by an on-module Texas Instruments (TI) MSP430, an ultra-low power microcontroller. Bluetooth communications are handled by an on-module TI CC2564 single chip Bluetooth solution, integrating the Bluetooth Basic Rate (BR), Enhanced Data Rate (EDR), and Low Energy (LE) features on one chip. The PAN1316 requires an external antenna, while the PAN1326 has an on-module antenna.
The PAN1326/131 Host Control Interface (HCI) allows easy access to the modules for configuration and data transfer. UART rates of up to 4Mbps are supported, along with three and four wire UART transport.
