Global Communication Technologists Set to Deliver Keynotes at Optical Communications Conference

BT, BBC, Huawei, ARM, and NSF join as confirmed plenary speakers for ECOC (European Conference on Optical Communications)

Europe’s largest optical communications conference, ECOC (European Conference on Optical Communications) has today announced its conference program is to feature presentations from leading and respected global industry experts and institutions about the latest developments in optical communications techniques, systems and networks from around the world. The five day conference will be held on September 22 to 26 at the ICC London ExCeL.

Now in its 39th year, the conference line-up will include keynote presentations from ARM’s CEO Warren East, BBC’s Senior Technology Executive Matthew Postgate and BT’s Managing Director, Research and Innovation Dr Timothy John Whitley.  All sessions will provide unique, cutting-edge technical reports to stimulate discussions with industry figureheads and researchers who are already confirmed to take part.

Workshops will take centre stage on day one to attract a wide audience of operators, vendors, manufacturers and researchers to participate in the six sessions throughout the day. The workshops will focus on Space Division Multiplexing (SDM) migration from point-to-point transmission to full optical networking, low cost access to photonics ICs, integration of optical devices for SDM transmission, technologies for short reach optical interconnects, architectures and control for elastic optical networks and SDN applications for optical network operating systems challenges and opportunities.

Technical Programme Committee Chair, Professor Dimitra Simeonidou from University of Bristol, said: “This year’s programme highlights the diverse topics currently in the optical communications market which are set to be covered at ECOC 2013. Delegates can look forward to hearing from world renowned researchers and distinguished industrialists on some of the hottest topics facing the industry today including data centre networks, high speed access technologies and integrated devices.”

The conference provides a global representation of speakers from service providers, technology companies to the industry’s global academics including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, University of Bath, UK, NTT Photonics Labs, Fujikura Ltd, University of Melbourne, Australia, Acacia Communications, Telefónica I+D, Hitachi, Stanford University, USA, and Prysmian Group who are all confirmed to deliver presentations and case studies.

Alongside the conference, on the third day, two special symposia will be hosted about two new topics in the field. The symposia will bring together well-respected professors and researchers from around the world and will cover Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, ideas for telecoms and data processing, and next generation data centres- paving the way for the Zettabyte era.

“The agenda is truly diverse and we’re excited and proud of the programme,” said ECOC Conference Chair, Professor Will Stewart at University of Southampton. “The conference programme truly reflects the shifting nature of this dynamic ecosystem and by offering the right balance of networking, information and practical applications, the conference is set to be the most interesting to date.”
