To honor Safer Internet Day, which was celebrated yesterday, Google is giving away an additional 2GB of storage on Google Drive in an effort to promote safer Internet practices around the world.
While this may not sound like much, it is enough to back up most of your necessities. But, in order to receive that free storage, you must navigate through the Google Security Checkup, which should only take a couple of minutes.
Currently, Google Drive offers 15GB of free storage and 30GB for work or school accounts. While the minor increase in storage probably won’t drastically affect how you use the tool, the primary focus is around the process to acquire the extra GB by reinforcing how essential it is to pay attention to your online security settings.
Additionally, Google is adding security to Gmail by flagging emails from recipients that make their way into your inbox but are not validated by TLS (transport layer security) encryption. The service polices how secure email messages are in midst of transit and guarantee that your email account remains private and isn’t exposed to third parties.
Last year, Google ran a similar storage boost for Safer Internet Day. There are a few restrictions however: the storage does not include Google Apps for Education and Work accounts and the offer only lasts until tomorrow, so you will need to jump on it if you plan on taking full advantage.
