Google Glass Gets New WordPress Plug-in

New “Eye Publishing” from Google Glass Plug-in

Google Glass has recently launched a new plug-in app for their apparatus, which gives wearers the ability to interact with the WordPress publishing platform. Using nothing but the glasses, a user can now post and update stories, photos, and videos with nothing more than a voice command or a quick tap on the glasses.

While the plug-in is not yet at a stage where larger publishers could use it to upload full-length articles, it seems perfect for reporters and bloggers covering live events — they could use the plugin to upload live pictures and video of the event, as well as real-time updates, as posts from the plug-in take less than a full minute to show up online. Developed by public relations agency Weber Shandwick and released by WordPress, the plug-in definitely changes the world of online publishing and journalism even if posting full-length articles is still problematic.

The new plug-in accesses the open-source code from WordPress in order to integrate with it, allowing wearers of Google Glass to easily meld into their publishing workflow. And with 330 million blogs currently on WordPress, it’s quite a workflow. According to Weber Shandwick’s Senior Vice President of technology innovation Ozzy Farman, getting the plug-in to support voice commands is “in the pipeline,” and will hopefully be completed by the time of Google Glass’s official launch.

Don't bother with a laptop or even your smartphone: use your glasses to publish!

If the plug-in works exactly as described above, it should quickly prove essential for the reporter on the street: It should allow reporters and bloggers to report something almost exactly as it happens.

Soon, everybody will be uploading through Google Glass plug-ins like this on, and the days of desktop computer publishing will be all but over: looks like we’re a little bit closer to getting the digital office.

You can download the plug-in here, or for more information, visit Google Glass’s official website!
