GPS module is small, low cost

The RM series low cost RM Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver module (RXM-GPS-RM) can simultaneously acquire on 66 channels and track on up to 22 channels, providing standard NMEA data messages through a UART interface. A simple serial command set is used to configure optional features. Receive sensitivity is an excellent -161 DBm.

The unit offers no-frills, basic operation in a compact 15 x 13 x 0.2 mm package and requires only an antenna. It powers up and outputs position data without any software set-up and takes 14 ma in acquisition mode and 0.14 ma in stand-by from a 3.0 to 4.3 V supply. Available now for about $16.20 ea/100.
