GUVA-C32SM from Electro Optical Components targets IoT and wearable devices

Digital compact sensor measures UV exposure with compact consumer products

GUVA-C32SM is an easy-to-use digital compact UV sensor, whose small size (2 x 2.3 mm) enables it to measure UV exposure with compact consumer products. It targets smartphones, wearable devices, IoT, watches, weather stations, bicycle navigation, and gaming accessories.

The sensor includes on-chip photodiodes, amplifiers, ADCs, digital control logic, and an I2C interface circuit. It receives UVA and outputs digital count according to the intensity. Power consumption can be minimized by proper use of power management mode. GUVA-C32SM supports four power management modes: normal, low-power, auto-shutdown, and shutdown.

Key features include UVA sensing with 16-bit resolution, support for UV index measurement (0~16), programmable gain and integration time, I2C slave interface up to 400 KHz, power management modes, shutdown current of 0.8 μA typical, and supply voltage of 2.2–3.6 V.
