Gyro adds FIFO to manage power

The L3G4200DH high-performance three-axis gyroscope integrates a FIFO memory block for smart power management. The on-chip memory stores up to 32 sets of sampled x-, y-, and z-axis data, eliminating the need to continuously communicate with the host processor and allowing the latter to spend more time in a sleep mode, thus decreasing power consumption. Designers can program the FIFO to send an interrupt when it is filled to a particular level.

To measure motion along all three axes, the gyro uses a single sensing structure that eliminates interference between the axes, thus increasing accuracy and reliability in applications such as gaming, motion tracking, and image stabilization. The 4 x 4 x 1-mm device has a 16-bit data output and user-programmable full-scale ranges from ±250°/s to ±2,000°/s. ($2.90 ea / 200,000 — available in volume mid-3rd qtr.)
