Among the six new 7.1-lb models expanding the FieldFox series of handheld analyzers, the flagship is the first handheld combination/microwave analyzer to provide coverage to 50 GHz. With more built-in capabilities than similar analyzers, the new analyzers can replace three or four single-function instruments of the type typically used for maintenance/troubleshooting of Ka-band-and-above radar and satellite systems. (See “Precision validation of radar system performance in the field”.) Delivering laboratory-grade measurements, the new analyzers cost about half what a single rack instrument does.
Three combination analyzer models—which provide spectrum analysis, vector network analysis, and cable and antenna testing — and three spectrum-analyzer models cover 32, 44, and 50 GHz. Analyzer functionality is software upgradeable, so users can choose the capabilities they need initially, and add others later. Add-on functionality includes vector voltmeter, TDR cable measurement, built-in power meter, pulse measurement, spectrum-analyzer time gating, interference analyzer (with spectrogram), and GPS receiver.
Spectrum measurements are up to eight times faster than with similar units from other vendors, and the units are also three pounds lighter. All units comply with US MIL-PRF-28800F Class 2 standards and are type tested to meet MIL-STD-810G (operation in explosive environments) and IEC/EN 60529 IP53 (protection from dust and water). Pricing starts at $28,000 for 32-GHz combination analyzer.
