Handheld meter provides lab-quality light data

To obtain light measurement data ranging from 200 to 1,050 nm with laboratory accuracy, each handheld GL SPECTIS 5.0 Touch spectrometer is individually calibrated for measurement of light sources such as LEDs, halogen and fluorescent lamps, photobiological safety lamps, and LCD displays, The compact (111 x 210 x 58-mm) and lightweight (1.5-kg) unit provides a resolution of 0.5 nm, has an OSR system for stray light reduction, and is compatible with a wide range of available integrating spheres and probes for measuring from 1 to 200,000 lux (Illuminant A).

The $17,500 meter uses a precision 2,048-pixel CCD image sensor with 16-bit A/D, and shows illumination parameters in CIE chromaticity diagrams on its TFT-LCD touch panel. Built-in Wi-Fi can send results to a nearby PC. The optional GL SpectroSoft software lets users create measurement setups designed to individual needs and transfer them via USB or Wi-Fi.
