The LM3466 LED driver simplifies the design of high power, wide area lighting fixtures such as streetlights. With just a few passive components, the part provides a complete system that drives each LED string from any off-the-shelf ac/dc constant-current power supply.
A unique dynamic current equalizing control scheme enables communication between each LM3466 LED driver to divide current equally or ratiometrically among multiple active LED strings. No binning of the LEDs is required. During an open (inactive) string state, each driver automatically equalizes current throughout remaining strings to maintain relatively constant output power.
The part integrates a 70-V 1.5-A n-Channel MOSFET and features an input range of 6 to 70 V. Housed in an 8-pin ePSOP package, the part also includes a fault-status output, input under voltage lockout, current limit, and thermal shutdown protection. Each LM3466 conducts a current up to 1.5 A. ($1.30 ea/1,000 — samples available now.)
