HD signal processors achieve speed, accuracy
Two highly integrated 14-bit HD image signal processors: the 75-Msample/s dual-channel AD9978A claimed the industry’s fastest — and the 72-Msample/s quad-channel ADDI7004 enable designers to create multichannel CCD (charge-coupled device) or CMOS HD image acquisition systems that can deliver the degree of clarity, visibility, and accuracy needed for today’s high-resolution requirements. The AD9978A and ADDI7004 HD consume 280 mW and 530 mW, respectively.
Each channel integrates a complete AFE comprising a black-level clamp, a CDS (correlated double sampler), a 10-bit VGA, and a 14-bit ADC. The company’s Precision Timing core provides adjustments for the CDS and SHA (sample-and-hold amplifier) clocks with 210-ps resolution at 75 MHz (AD9978A) and 217 ps at 72 MHz (ADDI7004). The AD9978A and ADDI7004 also contain a reduced range LVDS interface for the image-data outputs to increase performance and reduce EMI issues. The AD9978A is housed in a 40-pin LFCSP, while the ADDI7004 is housed in 76-ball BGA. (ea/1,000: AD9978A, $25.32; ADDI7004, $48.12 available now.)
