Signal Transformer, a Bel group company, has released its high-current toroidal choke (HCTC) and high-current toroidal inductor (HCTI) design kit combination. The design kit features 16 of the company’s most popular HCTC and HCTI series components in a wide assortment of characteristics, giving designs greater flexibility in their parts selection process. Both series can be used in a variety of applications, including industrial, telecommunications, and electric vehicles (EVs).
The HCTC devices are primarily used for filtering common mode noise in switch-mode power supply (SMPS) applications. These toroidal chokes feature a solid carrier base for stable vertical PCB mounting and fixed pin spacing for PCB insertion, high current capacity, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression. These devices use the largest possible conductor size for reduced heat rise and selection of low loss core material to ensure high efficiency in a small package, said the company.
Designed for differential noise and power factor correction in SMPS applications, the HCTI toroidal inductors feature high current carrying capability, and wide range of inductance and current ratings. Other features include vertical PC mounting for optimization of board layout, self-shielding for low magnetic flux radiation, and a distributed air gap for high energy storage.
The devices also claim high efficiency through reduced core loss and lower operating temperatures in comparison to traditional laminated inductors.
The HCTC Kit components range in inductances and currents from 1 mH, 4.8 A up to 1.2 mH, 16 A and the HCTI Kit components range from 1000 µH, 2.4 A to 22 µH, 16.4 A. The HCTC/HCTI Combination Design Kit is available through the company’s distribution network via Digi-Key and Mouser. Custom versions are also available on request.
