High-level EDA tools graphically animate complex design data
Products accelerate HDL-based design and verification
The Reveal interactor and Race simulation engine provide designers with
the ability to create interactive, animated virtual representations of a
design. Offered as a new class of electronic system design automation
tools, the products are claimed to provide major productivity
breakthroughs in HDL-based design and verification. Interactors integrate
animation and interaction capabilities that allow users to “interact” with
software–or “virtual”–representations as they create and analyze designs
without regard for the tool engines running under the interactor. A
virtual representation is a simple, animated graphical depiction that
transforms large amounts of complex and inter-related data into exactly
what the designer wants to see. The Reveal interactor graphically
animates design and state data using virtual representations; provides
interactive querying and manipulation of the representations;
instantaneously characterizes functional designs; and manages the
underlying tool engines. In addition, the tool incorporates Timeline
Interaction–the ability to provide state information at all points in
time. The Race simulation engine, which is controlled by the Reveal
interactor, is architected for both interactive debugging and long system
verification runs. It, along with Reveal, supports VHDL standalone,
Verilog standalone, and VHDL and Verilog mixed-language simulation. Using
clock-based algorithms, Race simulates VHDL and Verilog descriptions 30 to
130 times faster than most existing simulators, according to the company.
The Reveal interactor and the Race simulation engine products are
compatible with existing synthesis tools, simulators, and other EDA tools
that support VHDL and Verilog. The software will be available on both Sun
and Hewlett-Packard workstation platforms. (Single-language version, $65,
000–available 3rd qtr.) Redwood Design Automation San Jose, CA Jeff
