High-performance DSPs feature very low power

Four high-performance DSPs, one with a 300-MHz ARM processor, feature what is said to be the industry’s lowest-power floating-point processing with just 420 mW of total power and 7 mW in standby. The TMS320C6742, TMS320C6746, TMS320C6748, and OMAP-L138 offer dynamic voltage and frequency scaling and multiple power-down modes.

The ICs have fixed- and floating-point capabilities and 128 to 488 Kbytes of RAM. Versions of the devices have a SATA interface, a PWM, an I2 C port, UART or USB interfaces, an Ethernet MAC, an LCD controller, a universal parallel port (uPP) for high-speed connection to data converters or FPGAs, video I/O, and a multimedia card/secure digital interface.
