High performance DSPs handle multi-channel video
Chips target video security, automotive safety cameras, DVRs, IP video servers
Two DaVinci technology DSPs target multi-channel video security and infrastructure applications, including digital video recorders (DVR), IP video servers, machine vision systems and high-performance imaging applications. The TMS320DM647 and TMS320DM648 offer double the performance of previous versions and are said to integrate functionality that can provide a $40 reduction in video system BOM cost.
The DM648 offers 512 Kbytes of L2 cache and two Ethernet MACs with a switch, while the DM647 has 256 Kbytes of L2 cache and one Ethernet MAC. Both have a high performance video coprocessor, a 32-bit DDR2-533 memory interface, five 16-bit dual-channel video ports, plus I2C and SPI interfaces. The chips come in a 19 x 19 mm package and reduce system costs by providing an SGMII port with switch interconnects, on-chip video preprocessing, and two extra video portsremoving the need for a multiplexer. ($39.95 and $49.95 ea/10,000samples in June.)
