Hirose Electric Co., Ltd. has shrunk the size of its 2.5-GHz high-frequency antenna connector, reducing footprints by up to 37% in automotive antenna systems. The GT21 Series antenna connector also reduces assembly time and cost thanks to a one-step crimp termination design. The crimp termination also enables the cable assembly to be completed without touching the center conductor for precise positioning.
The GT21 Series antenna connector features a locking mechanism constructed to handle the shock and vibration commonly found in automotive applications. With a lock strength of 98N, the lock emits a tactile click when properly mated and a lock confirmation window further prevents incomplete mating, said the company.
The connector is said to provide an excellent high-frequency response characteristics with a VSWR lower than 1.5 at DC to 2.5 GHz. It is rated for exposure to shock and vibration, sulfur dioxide, high humidity and thermal shock. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 105°C. The maximum coaxial cable diameter for the GT21 series is 3.1 mm. (5.2 mm for the GT21A Series).
The GT21 Series is available in three termination variations, including through-hole, SMT, and in-line versions. The antenna connector supports single coaxial, 2-port, 3-port, and 4-port cable terminations. The single coaxial version is offered in four color-coded keying options.
