Hoodie made from speaker fabric provides clear sound

Audio engineer’s hoodie won’t muffle your headphones

If you’re an audio engineer or a music aficionado, have I got a toy for you: meet the Audio Engineer’s Hoodie, clothing made from speaker fabric that allows a person to hear sound perfectly through it.

sound hoodie

The hoodie was designed by sound engineer Nic Pope for Betabrand, and is designed for use by other sound engineers—or anybody who makes a living with music, really. The Audio Engineer’s Hoodie is made with speaker fabric on the hood, so over-the-ear headphones can be worn without muffling any of the sound. Like the front panels of a speaker, the hoodie’s side panels are thin and porous, extra-flexible in order to vibrate along with sound.

As well as having a hood with professional-level acoustics, the Audio Engineer’s Hoodie also comes with a pull-out technical diagram on the inside pocket—for all of your audio cable wiring needs—a loop on yet another pocket for securing keys, and plenty of room to store flash drives, adaptors, and other tricks of the trade.

Betabrand was producing the hoodie through a crowdsourcing initiative—one that has since ended, as enough people pre-ordered the $150 Hoodie for it to reach its funding goal a mere 20 hours after the initiative launched. Sound booths really must be freezing. That, or audio engineers are just really into hoodies.
