Hot-swap managers protect against 5-A in-rush current
Tiny, integrated FETs protect 3 to 20-V rails
Three hot-swap managers help protect against over currents for voltage rails between 3 and 20 V and an operating current up to 5 A. The TPS2420 comes in a 16-pin QFN package and the TPS2421-1 and TPS2421-2 are provided in 8-pin SOIC packages.
The hot-swap managers provide an integrated FET and current-sense element, an onboard FET with 20mΩ RDS(on) , and a fault-threshold that is adjustable from 0 to 5 A. The devices offer more than twice the current throughput of existing hot-swap managers with integrated FETs in the same voltage range.
The TPS2420 family supports applications such as disk drive arrays, network clients, industrial monitoring devices and communications systems. Each device can operate across the entire operating voltage range with only the timing capacitor and resistor-set. (Ea/1,000: TPS2420, $1.95; TPS2421-1 and TPS2421-2, $1.60 TPS2420, available now; TPS2421-1 and TPS2421-2, available in 2nd qtr.)
