This past winter, Texas Instruments' (TI) Sitara engineer, Punya Prakash, was formally honored as the winner of the Rising Engineering Star Award by Mouser Electronics, in partnership with Design News . In just three short years, Prakash has made her mark at TI as an applications engineer, a typically male-dominated technology industry, and for her, this is just the beginning.

Prakash became interested in semiconductor technology years ago while attending school at home, in Bangalore, India. At the time, her hometown was slowly on its way to becoming the silicon hub it's known to be today. As semiconductor technology was the main focus while she was in school, it gave her the opportunity to learn about it, and that's when she took an interest in the technology field.
After she earned her undergrad degree from Visveswaraiah Technological University in India, Prakash began working for a software engineering firm and became interested in embedded analytics and technology that enables systems to analyze information and make intelligent decisions. With this newly discovered passion and a drive to further her education, she was accepted to the University of Texas at El Paso to pursue her master's degree. There, her research on TI's Beagle-Board was funded by the Texas Instruments Foundation (TIF).
Recently promoted from the applications engineering team, Prakash is now an end-equipment manager. She leads the Sitara ARM Processors team's extensive smart home solutions initiative with TI where she is innovating automation. In her three years working at TI, Prakash achieved many accomplishments and gained the respect of her colleagues. It was her hard work, dedication, and proven leadership skills that brought her to the top as the Rising Engineering Star. In Mouser’s press release, Prakash said, “It is a great honor to be recognized by industry leaders like Mouser and Design News from such an impressive list of nominees.” She also said that being recognized by industry leaders is very encouraging to engineers trying to make a difference.
As for her future years at TI, Prakash would like to continue to drive great ideas and initiatives within the organization, as well as help grow the revenue and customer base. Her goal is to make a significant impact on the organization in a positive way.
The Rising Stars program is the newest cooperative effort between Mouser and Design News , a division of UBM that serves the information needs of design engineers around the world.
