Oh the things you find on YouTube. Sometimes they’re head scratchers in the sense “Why in the world would someone do that?” Other times, they’re head scratchers in the sense “Why didn’t I think of that?”
Enter illusions specialist “Brusspup,” who definitely falls under the latter category. He just posted a demonstration video on how to turn one’s computer screen into a secret monitor that only the user can see when donning a special pair of glasses.
Before we get to the actual video, he goes through the items necessary for this project pretty quickly, so if you’re interested in trying this out for yourself, here’s what you’ll need:
$20 LCD monitor from local pawn shop
A bit of polarizing filter
Standard 3D glasses
Scissors
Prying tool
Hobbyist knives (X-Acto knives)
In terms of steps, Brusspup pried off the monitor’s cover and used the knives to remove the screen’s polarizing filter. He then applied new polarizing filter to the 3D glasses (removing the lenses first) and voila — a blank screen that can only be seen when the user puts on the glasses.
