HP/Fluke alliance provides easier product purchasing

Hewlett-Packard (Palo Alto, CA) and Fluke (Everett, WA) have agreed
to a reciprocal distribution and marketing agreement that will enable customers
to buy HP's basic instruments from Fluke's worldwide distributors. At the
same time, HP will sell and support seven of Fluke's compact electronic-test
tools through its direct sales force and on-line sales and support center
(see table ).

The alliance is geared toward low-cost and moderately priced handheld
and benchtop test and measurement instruments. The products chosen complement
each other to avoid competition and to meet all the application needs of
customers of both companies. Each company will continue to be responsible
for its own warranties and services regardless of who sells the products.

“Not only will both companies increase their market presence, but
this alliance also will help distributors provide a greater selection of
products to their customers,” says Bill Parzybok, chairman and chief
