Hybrid FPC/FFC connector delivers higher power rating

Hirose increased the power rating of its TF43SW Series hybrid FPC/FFC connector, providing power and signal contacts in a small footprint.

Designed for space-constrained applications, Hirose Electric USA has launched a new hybrid flexible printed circuit (FPC)/flat flexible connector (FFC) that offers space-savings up to 23 percent compared to competing products. Offering a combination of power contacts capable of handling 12 A and 0.5-A signal contacts, the TF43SW Series hybrid FPC/FFC connector features a height of 1.2 mm and mounting depth of 4.0 mm.

The TF43SW Series is suitable for use with FPC/FFC standard thickness of 0.3 mm (+/-0.03 mm). The connector comes with 66 contacts (positions) with a 0.5-mm pitch and length of 47.88 mm.

Hirose said a unique contact actuator design that features retention tabs prevents unintended actuator separation. “The retention tabs surround the actuator axle and hooks onto the cavity, preventing the actuator from opening.” The tabs, combined with a 2-point contact design, are said to enhance the reliability and robustness of the TF43SW connector series..

The hybrid connector also offers solder wicking prevention via nickel barrier plating. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.

The TF43SW Series connector can be used in a range of applications, including portable and consumer electronics such as  smart TVs, notebooks and tablets, gaming systems, HDD & optical pickups, as well as office equipment, medical devices, and industrial machinery.

For automotive applications, Hirose recently expanded its high-speed family of FPC/FFC connectors, supporting up to 1.5 Gbits/s, with an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C
