The MH80 Series hybrid hard-disk drives are said to be the first offered in 160-Gbyte capacity. The drives have 256 Mbytes of flash optimized to work in tandem with Windows Vista capable notebook PCs.
The devices’ OneNAND flash cache, when used with Microsoft’s ReadyDrive software, is said to offer faster application launch speeds, faster boot and resume times, and longer battery lifeas the cache operates a greater percentage of time with the motor switched off. Track-to-track seek time is 2 ms, average seek time is 12 ms, and the 5,400-rpm drive has a 1.5-Gbit/s SATA interface. ($299available now.)
