The first product in the MHP family, the MHP30-36 is a metal hybrid polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) device that combines a bimetal protector in parallel with a PPTC device. Suited for applications that use high-rate discharge lithium-ion batteries, the device features a 36 Vdc/100 A maximum rating and a time-to-trip of under 5 s at 100 A (at 25°C).
The hybrid device offers 30-A hold current and an initial resistance of less than 2 mΩ. The device is said to be able to help reduce the number of discharge FETs and accompanying heat sinks in applications that typically use IC-plus-FET battery protection designs. ($2 ea/50,000 — available now.)
