Hybrid simulation yields cycle accurate models

The Simics simulation environment now incorporates hybrid simulation capability that allows cycle-accurate models to be run from within the environment. This allows engineers to analyze/debug/profile/execute applications in a fast TLM-based functionally accurate model and then switch to the cycle-accurate model when they want to perform precise performance analysis on critical sections — an important tool for advanced multicore processors.

The simulator will support the upcoming eight-core QorIQ P4080 processor from Freescale. The tool has the ability to mix detailed and fast models both temporally and spatially, allowing software developers to mix models at different levels of abstraction within the same simulation session and to switch between them in order to instantaneously analyze specific areas of interest.
