IC provides USB 3.0 Type-C plug-in detection

The PI5USB30216A plug-in detector IC provides USB 3.0 Type-C plug-in orientation detection at the connector. It supports host mode, device mode and dual role mode ports with automatic configuration based on the voltage levels detected on CC pins. The IC uses a 2.7 – 5.5 V supply and needs only 35 to 180 µA, depending on mode of operation.

The STQFN (1.6 x 1.6 mm) packaged chip supports both pin and I² C mode control, and has a control pin for a 55 µA maximum power-saving mode. It provides support for USB 3.0 Default current, 1.5 A, and 3 A power modes with I² C control and operates over -40° to 85°C.
