IGBT power modules target industrial drives

The latest Infineon TRENCHSTOP IGBT power modules delivers much lower static losses and lower on-state voltage

By Gina Roos, editor-in-chief

Infineon Technologies AG has launched a new 1,200-V TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 and emitter-controlled EC7 diode. Delivering higher power density, lower system cost, and reduced system size, the IGBT power module meets the requirements of industrial drives  applications.

Thanks to the new micro-pattern trench technology, the TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 chip performs with much lower static losses compared to the IGBT4, said Infineon, and the on-state voltage is reduced by 20%. As a result, there is significant loss reduction in the application, particularly for industrial drives, which usually operate at moderate switching frequencies.

Features include a maximum allowed overload junction temperature of 175°C, softer switching, and improved controllability. In addition, the TRENCHSTOP IGBT 7 modules are designed with the same pinout as the IGBT4 modules, making it easier to design in the latest version module.

The new modules also enable a higher output current in the same package or a similar output current in a smaller package. This gives designers an option to design smaller inverter designs. All IGBT7 modules (10 A and 25 A) are offered in industry-standard EasyPIM housing. For more power, the EasyPACK 2B carries 100 A.
