If you’re an Android user weary from a weekend full of commercials and articles talking about Apple’s new Watch, then you’ll probably take some joy in the image below of the Google Android bot peeing on an Apple logo, which was discovered on its Google Maps program.
The derogatory image, which is marked south of the Pakistani town of Rawalpindi, was first noticed by Team Android, and can only be seen on the Map view in Google Maps (both mobile and desktop versions). If you try and look for it in Google Earth, it’s not there.
The image is obviously not an actual feature on the Pakistani terrain. Rather, per Mashable, which spoke to a spokesperson at Google, the image is probably the result of a user abusing Map Maker, the tool that allows everyone to contribute to Google Maps.
“Even though edits are moderated, occasionally the odd inaccurate or cheeky edit may slip through our system,” the spokesperson said. “We've been made aware of the issue and are working on getting it removed.”
Worth noting is that someone informed Google of their opinion on the company’s edit moderation policy with another image recently.
This one is located slightly east of the Android bot, in the Takht Pari forest, and while the message might be a bit unsophisticated, the message is clear: the moderation system for Google Maps edits needs some updating.
