Image of the Day: Hologram citizens take to the streets of Spain in virtual protests

Hologram Protests
A group called Hologramas Por La Libertad (Holograms for Freedom) has responded to a new “Gag” law (Citizen Safety Law) that will go into effect in Spain.

The law, set to go in effect on July 1, will prohibit citizens from demonstrating or assembling in public places without risking a fine. In order to make a statement, citizens have created the Holograms for Freedom organization which can create virtual protest on the streets without being physically present, proving that protests will not stop just because of a new law.

Anyone can take part in the demonstrations by visiting the Holograms for Freedom website. On the website you can write a message, record your voice or upload a photo and transform into a protesting hologram.

According to the International Business Times, the hologram protests that took place over the weekend lasted about an hour and contained over 2,000 virtual images in order to dispute the new law.
