The uber-talented Austrian innovator Klemens Torggler has created possibly the coolest concept for doors ever. It combines artistic expertise with sculptureesque functionality to deliver a door unlike any other. In the videos he has uploaded to YouTube, you’ll find Torggler casually pushing the geometrically unique doors open as if they were just simply made from wood, as if he were just opening a normal door with a handle. Torggler has a vast amount of experience building doors, as he has been working in the field since 1997. On his website, Torggler states that “the special construction makes it possible to move the door sideways without the use of tracks. This technical trick opens up new applications for the door.”
Torggler has classified the various styles of the magical doors he's designed. The first is a double-rod system, composed of two leafs that open and close from two long metal pieces mounted on each square. The dual-sectional door opens and closes by rotating and sliding into place.
The epitrochoid curve system contains a wheel and curved track. As the wheel moves along the track’s curve, the door gains momemtum to manually open and close.
The design of the triangle system is when the door is split into two halves where each half is cut diagonally. The orthogonal edges run into each other when they hit the middle of the triangle. When in motion, all components of the triangle system ride on a track where the triangles are pulled into a folded position. This weight of the structure maneuvers the edges of the triangle into its proper position. Its appearance is fascinating. The doors look like they were beamed out from a sci-fi movie.
Torggler’s screen system acts as a partition, and is mounted on a rod that is bolted to the floor. The two double-rod doors fan out to form a large-scale screen for your room.
These doors would make a stellar addition to my home's decor – I hope these designs become available in the U.S. really soon!
