It’s probably safe to say you’ve never seen anything like the TV pictured above before. The unit comes from LG Display—it’s an extremely thin OLED display prototype, and not hitting the market any time soon.
In terms of specs, the panel measures 55 inches diagonally, weighs 4.2 pounds, and is just .04 inches thick. When it comes to application, the user sticks it to the wall via magnetic mat.
LG has made it known they are very serious about being seen as a leader in the future of large OLED panels, a technology that is slowly making its way into the mainstream market, but one that still takes the backseat to the better established LED panels.
Yeo Sang-deog, head of LG Display’s OLED division, said the company will ramp up OLED display production in Q3 of 2015; the goal is to sell 600,000 OLED displays in 2015, and 1.5 million in 2016.
“We should be able to supply a satisfactory volume to our clients from July or August, which means we're hoping to buckle down production as well as promotion from the third quarter,” Sang-deog told reporters at a media event in Korea.
