Siri is by far the world’s most popular virtual assistant. Since first being introduced with the iPhone 4S on October 4, 2011, she’s fielded hundreds of millions of questions posed to her by users from around the world.
The name of the actor providing the voiceover, however, has never been revealed; that is, until now.
In an exclusive report, CNN has revealed that the name of the actor is Susan Bennett, and she lives in suburban Atlanta, Georgia.
Apple has not confirmed this report, but those who know Bennett’s voice, have worked with her in the past, and those who represent her legally, back up her claim that she is, in fact, the voice of Siri.
As if that’s not enough, CNN employed the expertise of an audio-forensics specialist to study Bennett’s voice against Siri’s. His conclusion: 100% certainty that both voices are the same.
So what made her come forward now after two years of silence? The launch of iOS 7 with brand new Siri voices, which means her reign as the American Siri is now coming to an end.
Obviously, the image above is just a teaser. The full report that CNN put together is below (a short two-minute video), which includes a sit-down interview with Bennett in which she describes working with Apple and how she was forced to keep her role under wraps.
Perhaps the most surprising nugget of detail out of the clip is the fact that she first did voiceover work for Siri in July 2005 — a full six years before the technology was actually implemented.
If you don’t have time to sit through the whole thing and just want to see who she is, scroll below the video to see a screen shot of the actress.
