Margaux Guerard, the co-founder and president of tech start-up MEMI, has created the MEMI Smartbracelet, wearable tech designed specifically for women that discretely alters them to incoming calls, or texts.
Unlike other wearable technologies, the MEMI looks just like a normal, elegant bracelet in gold or silver, albeit probably heavier than the jewelry you’re used to wearing. Guerard and company designed the device specifically for women who often keep their smartphones or other smart devices in their purses, meaning that incoming calls and messages are often missed unless the phone is checked every five minutes.
If you’re receiving an incoming call or text, the MEMI will subtly vibrate against your wrist, a casual type of alert that won’t disrupt other people or your own routines. The smartbracelet’s one flaw may be that it does not show or have a way to inform you of who the message is from—it only has the basic vibrating function and nothing else.
Despite its limited functionality, the MEMI seems to be a pretty popular device concept, having raised over $100,000 for production in its Kickstarter campaign, with more than 400 financial backers. The company is hoping to retail their device for around $200, but you can preorder your very own smartbracelet for $150 here.
