Even if you’re not a Star Wars fan, it’s hard to imagine a person who doesn’t find R2D2 adorable. Which is why this new Runatown R2D2 gadget should definitely be something you own:
Created by Japan-based tech company Runatown, this mini-R2D2 projects an infrared keyboard, so you can type or work anywhere you like. Runatown’s adorable little gadget uses a Bluetooth wireless 3.0 to connect to your electronic devices.
After it’s connected, it will project the 70x97x49mm keyboard onto any flat surface. When you tap the keys, an infrared sensor within R2D2 senses and translates that movement into a signal that reaches your tablet or phone. That signal is then read as your key strokes. According to Discovery, the infrared keyboard even works at a distance, at a maximum of 32ft.
Also, just in case the mini-bot wasn’t cute enough, Runatown’s gadget comes with sound effects: when you type, you’ll hear R2D2’s iconic chirps and whirs. All in all, it would be a fun little gadget to have…if it wasn’t for its one fatal flaw. The price.
For the privilege of owning your very own keyboard-projecting mini-R2D2, Runatown wants you to shell out $330. I’ll let you decide if it’s worth it.
