The behemoth robot weighs 11 tons, stands at 51 feet tall, and has a 40-foot wingspan. What’s even better than that?
It breathes fire.

German electronics company Zollner Elektronik AG has been working on the robot for about 10 years. Developers named the robot “Tradinno,” a combination name composed of the words “tradition” and “innovation.”
The technology behind Tradinno
A team of 15 experts from mechanical, electronic and software development worked simultaneously on the robot to create support structures, drive, necessary driving power, and the robot’s corresponding control units.

Tradinno is driven by a 2-liter turbo diesel engine and has a mechanical performance of 80 kW and an electrical performance of 10 kW. The fire-breathing dragon has skin that’s made of polyurethane and glass-reinforced plastic.
Some of its parts:
– 2 hydraulic circuits
– 272 hydraulic valves
– 65 animated axles
– 238 sensors
– 985 feet of hydraulic lines
– 4,265 feet of electric cables
– 360 feet of pneumatic lines
To give the robot realistic movements, the team geared it up with bidirectional wireless data transmission.

Since his birth, Tradinno has been quite a star. Last month, he was acting in Germany's oldest folk play, “Drachenstich,” which is performed each August in the Bavarian town of Furth im Wald.
The team filled his veins with over 20 gallons of stage blood and over 24 lbs of liquid gas to spit fire for the performances.
