The Peel P50 has held the Guiness Book of World Records title of “World’s Smallest Production Car” for over 50 years. Only 50 P50s were ever produced, and only 27 of them are known to still exist.
Now you can buy a fully functional replica on eBay for just $26,000.
The car measures 54 inches long and 41 inches wide. Powered by a 200-cc Honda engine, it is equipped with one high-beam and low-beam headlight, a fully independent suspension, and all-wheel braking. The replica has some more modern features such as a three-point seatbelt and a digital speedometer.
The Peel P50 was originally manufactured in 1962 on the Isle of Man between England and Ireland. It was the vision of the Peel Engineering Company’s owner, Cyril Cannell, to bring to life a small, commuter car that could travel 40 mph and seat one passenger comfortably.
The P50 remains the World’s Smallest Car, but others are trying to grab the title. Earlier this month, mechanical engineering students from the Nitte Meenakshia Institute of Technology (NMIT) in Mangalore, India, developed a vehicle that measures 72 inches long, 47 inches wide, and weighs just over 285 lbs. Although they don’t quite surpass the specs of the P50, they are trying.
