Hirose has developed a miniature Ethernet interface that consumes 70% less space than the standard RJ45 connection. The ix range of Ethernet interface connectors is targeted at the Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications.
Ethernet is now being widely used in a variety of fields, including security systems, factory automation machinery and robotics, communications and data networks, and various transportation applications. So device interface and system cable need to be smaller, more powerful, and even more robust.
For a start, the ix Ethernet interface connectors enable parallel 11-mm-pitch mounting, which facilitates smaller cabling for applications with miniaturized requirements. They are also much safer because the two snap-in metal hooks ensure that the receptacle and connector are more securely connected.
Next, to ensure a robust structure, there are five through-hole shield contacts, which offer maximum stability on the PCB, increase locking strength, and provide durable cable connection to the plug. The interface device also supports strong resistance to vibration and shock while enabling 5,000 mating cycles.
The interface connectors are designed to provide Cat 6A performance for up to 10-Gbps Ethernet data transmission speeds and are standardized to the IEC/PAS61076-3-124 connectivity specification. So data transmission is safe even in EMC-critical applications due to the continuous 360° shield design, which guarantees high immunity from interference.
