Industry program provides platform for more-efficient collaboration

The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) recently announced the launch of its Industry Connections program, which was developed to offer like-minded companies a quick and cost-effective solution for initiating collaborative work in IEEE standards-related activities. The focus of the program is to help streamline the tedious and time-consuming early stages of industry consortium by leveraging IEEE and IEEE-SA resources and providing a secure infrastructure.

The program’s first activity is the Industry Connections Security Group (ICSG), a global effort to combat the growing threat of malware by combining unique industry experience and data. The members of the ICSG include a variety of entities in the industry, including security vendors, industry content contributors, educational institutions government agencies and companies such as AVG Technologies, McAfee, Microsoft, Sophos, Symantec, and Trend Micro. The members are working to establish a more-effective forum for sharing malware samples and information, and to eventually reach a consensus approach to security, or possibly new IEEE standards.

The IEEE-SA hopes to encourage more groups like the ICSG to emerge in the near future. For more information on the IEEE Industry Connections or the ICSG, visit http://standards.ieee.org/prod-serv/indconn/index.html.
