Inexpensive RF, universal frequency counters offer high functionality and are first on LXI bus
The 53200 RF and universal frequency counter/timer series are the first units designed to meet the LXI Class C specification for ease of connectivity and data collection. The combination of high-speed measurement and built-in analysis provides new functionality previously unavailable in basic frequency counter/timers, at prices starting at less than $2,000.
The series offers base bandwidth of 350 MHz with options to extend up to 15 GHz, and measurement reading speed has more than doubled compared to the previous generation. The units offer up to 12-digits/s continuous-count, gap-free frequency resolution as well as 20-ps single-shot time interval resolution — the highest specs for this class of instrument.
The units have internal memory of 1M readings and a USB 2.0 port, allowing quick, simple connection to a PC or memory stick for remote data transfer/analysis. The units’ 4.3-in. graphical display and built-in post measurement analysis capability — they provide advanced math and statistical information, including basic modulation domain analysis (MDA), simple jitter analysis, Allan deviation, and histograms — let engineers view measurement history and see their signal’s quality/characteristics quickly.
A battery option supports remote usage as well as maintenance of accuracy by keeping the timebase warm at all times. The series is SCPI compatible, and an optional GPIB interface is available. (From $1,963 to $3,552 — available now.)
