Infineon adds two industrial-grade CoolGaN power transistors

Infineon expands its CoolGaN family of e-mode HEMT power transistors with the addition of industrial-grade 400-V and 600-V devices

By Gina Roos, editor-in-chief

Infineon Technologies AG has expanded its CoolGaN  enhanced-mode (e-mode) HEMT power transistor series with two industrial-grade devices. The CoolGaN 400-V device (IGT40R070D1 E8220) is optimized for premium HiFi audio systems, and is used as a replacement for bulky linear or tube amplifiers, while the CoolGaN 600-V device (IGLD60R190D1) is designed for low- and mid-power consumer and industrial power applications. All CoolGaN devices meet JEDEC standards.

For audio, the CoolGaN 400-V device  provides high efficiency and low distortion for class D audio amplifiers. The switch enables smoother switching and more linear class D output stage by offering low/linear Coss, zero Qrr, and a normally-off switch. The CoolGaN technology uses zero reverse recovery charge in the body diode and very small, linear input and output capacitances, which helps deliver a more natural and wider soundstage audio experience, said Infineon.

Infineon pairs the CoolGaN 400-V device in an HSOF-8-3 (TO-leadless) package with a class D controller (IRS20957STRPBF) in an evaluation board to further simplify design.

TheCoolGAN 600-V series device  addresses switched-mode power supply (SMPS) designs for datacom and telecom systems, as well as power adapters and wired/wireless chargers. The CoolGaN 600-V portfolio is now extended with a new 190 mΩ, industrial-grade HEMT. To ease design, it is supported with a standard DFN 8 x 8 packaging, and matching driver ICs from the GaN EiceDRIVER series.

The CoolGaN 400 V (IGT40R070D1 E8220) and the CoolGaN 600 V (IGLD60R190D1) devices can be ordered now. The evaluation board, EVAL_AUDAMP24, will be available for order in February 2020. More information is available at  www.infineon.com/gan.
