Infineon expands connected MCU family

Infineon Technologies AG has released the AIROC CYW5591x connected microcontroller (MCU) product family with long-range Wi-Fi 6/6E, Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) 5.4 and Matter over Wi-Fi support for small form-factor products in smart home, industrial, wearables and other IoT applications. The connected MCU platform also gives designers access to development tools including ModusToolbox software, RTOS and Linux host drivers, a fully validated Bluetooth stack and multiple sample code examples and Matter software enablement.

The MCU family can be used as the main processor in an IoT device or as a subsystem in more complex designs to fully offload connectivity for IoT applications, Infineon said. It is available in three versions: CYW55913 for tri-band (2.4/5/6 GHz), CYW55912 for dual-band (2.4/5 GHz) and CYW55911 for single-band (2.4 GHz) support.

The CYW5591x connected MCUs feature an Arm Cortex M33 192-MHz MCU with TrustZone CC312 and 768-KB SRAM. Key features include QSPI FLASH/PSRAM with XIP and OTF encryption and decryption and 1×1 Tri-Band (2.4/5/6 GHz) 20-MHz Wi-Fi 6/6E (802.11ax). Peripherals include 3×SCB (I2C/SPI/UART), timer counter pulse width modulator, 7-channel 12-bit ADC, digital microphone support, TCM (I2S/PCM) and up to 47 GPIOs. Hardware support includes AES, RSA, ECC, ECDHA, ECDSA and root-of-trust.

Key Wi-Fi features include up to +24-dBm transmit power, best-in-class sensitivity of -101.5 dBm and support for Matter over Wi-Fi. The family supports 6-GHz (Wi-Fi 6E) greenfield spectrum for lower congestion and reduced latency.

Bluetooth LE range and power are optimized with up to +19-dBm transmit power. Bluetooth LE long range RX sensitivity is -111.5 dBm.

The devices provide multi-layer security with lifecycle management support, secured boot with firmware authentication and encryption, anti-rollback as well as crypto key establishment and management. The family is PSA Level 2 certifiable.

The CYW55913/2/1 devices are packaged in a 3.57 × 5.32 mm WLBGA. The devices are sampling now to alpha customers.
