Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the first device in its new WLC family of wireless charging controllers for inductive wireless charging. The new WLC1115 transmitter controller ICs, aimed at meeting challenges in wireless power transfer, also comes with a companion Qi v1.3.2 certified MP A11 power transmitter reference solution. The wireless charging platform targets a variety of applications, including smartphones, smart speakers, docking stations, monitor stands, as well as industrial or health-care accessories.
With configurable controllers and Qi-standard compliance, the programmable solution can be scaled to higher power levels and enable new features as inductive wireless charging standards evolve, said Infineon.
The integrated and configurable WLC1115 15-W transmitter controller IC includes a USB-PD/PPS sink, DC/DC controller, gate drivers for DC/DC, a full-bridge inverter, sensing peripherals, and configurable flash memory. It supports a wide input voltage range from 4.5 V to 24 V, multipath voltage- and current-based ASK demodulation.
Other features include an integrated, programmable, high-side current-sense amplifier and adaptive foreign object detection (FOD) via Q-factor, resonant frequency, and power loss. It also includes a variety of protection features for UVLO, OVP, OCP, and OTP that are programmable.
The WLC1115-based Extended Power Profile (EPP) transmitter solution using OPTIGA Trust Charge meets the authentication requirements in the Qi v1.3.2 standard, said Infineon. When combined with the Infineon’s USB-C chargers and MOSFET portfolio, the WLC1115 solution offers a complete product package to help meet regulatory and compliance requirements, added the company.
The WLC1115 transmitter controller ICs are available now. Also available are software tools that support Qi v1.3.2 and proprietary charging protocols.
