Steve Appleton (March 31 1960-February 3 2012)
Steve Appleton, Micron’s CEO and Chairman, was a devotee to tennis and loved flying airplanes as a hobby.He grew up in West Covina, CA, and attended Boise State University in 1978 after receiving a tennis scholarship.After graduating in 1982 with a BA in Business Management, Appleton began to work on Micron’s factory floor, where he rose quickly up the corporate ladder to Officer in 1989.
In 1991, Appleton was given the title of President and Chief Operating Officer. During this year, he founded the Micron Foundation in 1991, which donates millions of dollars to Boise University that helped build the Micron Business and Economic building.
In May 1994, he became CEO, President and Chairman of the Board.
According to Forbes, Appleton was the 118th best-paid CEO in America.In 2011, he was awarded the Robert Noyce Award from the Semiconductor Industry Association. At the time of his death, he was serving on the Board of Directors for the Semiconductor Industry Association, and the Board of Directors for the National Semiconductor Corporation, the U.S. Technology CEO Council, and was a member of the World Semiconductor Council and Idaho Business Council.
