Intel SSDs using 34-nm flash cut cost, up performance

The X18-M and X25-M SATA Mainstream solid-state disk drives are now being built using 34-nm flash, which will reduce cost by up to 60%. The 1.8- and 2.5-in.-form-factor multilevel-cell (MLC) drives come in 80- and 160-Gbyte versions and offer improved latency and faster random write IOPS than the previous version that used 50-nm flash.

Read latency is specified as 65 µs, write as 85 µs. Random 4-Kbyte reads yield up to 35,000 IOPS, and random 4-Kbyte writes up to 6.600 or 8,600 IOPS. Active power is 150 mW typ and idle is 75 mW.
