Internal antenna brings FM directly to portables
Incorporating FM radio into handsets and other handheld devices typically has been accomplished by placing the FM antenna into the thin cord that attaches to earpiece listening devices, which can be somewhat limiting to the true mobile experience due to low-quality reception and the fact that Bluetooth earpieces cannot be used. Offered as the industry’s first miniature internal antenna circuit combination to provide FM, impedance matching, and signal amplification, the RadioAnt eliminates the cord-antenna solution with its ability to be placed inside mobile devices such as cell phones, MP3 players, and even gaming devices.
The ESD-protected device also enables, indirectly, reception of FM signals on Bluetooth earpiece by virtue of transmitting from the portable device to the earpiece. The antenna also proves itself useful in FM retransmission methods used in MP3 and satellite radio players. An aside: in September 2007, the company released the Activv antenna to replace the RadioAnt with a 5-dB improvement in sensitivity and a 25% size reduction.
