iPhone 5s vs 5c drop test — Which one do you think shattered?

When Apple’s new smartphones go through a drop test, one does not make it through

While metal has — time and again — proven to be a more durable encasement than plastic, Apple has provided the market with the unique opportunity of testing the durability of these two materials with the launch of two identically built smartphones: the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c.

iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c

In case you’re unaware of the difference between the iPhone 5s and 5c, both are made from similar build material, but where the former is wrapped in an aluminum casing, the 5C is surrounded by plastic, or, as the company’s marketing department phrases it, a “steel-reinforced polycarbonate unibody”.

Lucky for us, the folks at Android Authority used their budget to purchase both phones for a drop test. Performed by Joshua Vergara, the devices were released at chest level three times, first hitting the ground on their backs, then on their sides, and then on their faces.

One passed with flying colors while the other cracked — care to venture a guess before you press play?

There you go — a clear difference between the two. If you’re like me and have two sets of butter fingers, going for the iPhone 5S might be the better choice, as this video proves the iPhone 5C pales in comparison when it comes to durability.
