Cover meant to protect phone also protects owner
Yellow Jacket is a phone cover case that would no doubt gain approval from the likes of gadget-loving heroes like 007 and Batman. That’s because it’s an iPhone case that not only protects the phone, but also its owner, as it doubles as a stun gun capable of delivering 650,000 volts of electricity to an attacker.
The Yellow Jacket looks like a normal iPhone case, but it doubles as a 650,000-volt stun gun.
The case was created by a Louisiana man traumatized by a home break-in. He channeled his anger — and smarts — into creating a defensive weapon that everyone can carry with them at all times.
How it works
The Yellow Jacket iPhone case looks, for the most part, just like any other case on the market right now. The only difference is that it can swiftly deliver enough electricity to bring down a “fully grown, aggressive male,” according to the company.
Unlike your regular, run-of-the-mill stun gun which can take a couple of seconds to locate and initiate, the Yellow Jacket is easily deployable (since we all have our phones on us at all times) and ready to zap would-be-attackers in less than two seconds of time.
The case comes with its own built-in-battery, which not only provides the charge necessary for stunning an attacker, but also provides the phone with an extra 20 hours of battery life between charges (that alone might be worth the cost of the case).
I can definitely see someone accidentally zapping themselves with this thing
Believe it or not, the case is super safe. Similar to an actual firearm, the Yellow Jacket has a safety switch on it to keep from going off unintentionally.
Also, its electrodes are covered by a cap that must be rotated off before the stun gun can be used.
The Yellow Jacket has numerous safety measures to protect users from accidentally shocking themselves or those nearby.
These precautionary measures are all intended to “prevent unintentional shocks from occurring,” the company says.
Interesting concept — but why are we putting a stun gun on top of an iPhone?
Yellow Jacket co-founder Seth Froom came up with the idea after he was robbed at gunpoint in his home. Not only frustrated by the attack, Froom was also angry over the fact that the guns he had in his house didn’t protect him, as they were out of reach during the time of the robbery. This led him to the idea of coming up with a defensive weapon that could be readily available at all times.

I like it: where can I get one?
Right now, Yellow Jacket is being pitched on the fundraising site indiegogo.com . At present, it’s just short of the $30k mark, and still has a way’s to go before hitting its goal of $100k (it has 13 days left).
The Yellow Jacket will be available in three colors: black, white, and pink. When it hits the market, it will retail for $125, though right now the price tag is set at the basement bargain price of $85.
If you are serious about getting the Yellow Jacket, make sure to check with local enforcement for state restrictions prior to ordering the gadget holder / attacker repellent.
For the Android crowd out there, you need not be angry at Yellow Jacket for choosing to make the case iPhone-specific: an Android version is expected to hit the market soon, too. ■
