IR Adds Optimized Single-Phase 5A and 12A Synchronous Buck Reference Designs to POWIR+ Family

IR Adds Optimized Single-Phase 5A and 12A Synchronous Buck Reference Designs to POWIR+ Family

International Rectifier has introduced two new POWIR+™ chipset reference designs, the IRPP3624-05A and IRPP3624-12A. Simplifying and accelerating circuit design, the new reference designs target single-phase synchronous buck converter applications in computing and high-end consumer applications.

“The new reference designs provide an extremely useful and simple way of designing on-board embedded single-phase synchronous buck converters of up to 5A or 12A. The on-line design tool configures the reference designs to meet specific requirements for a variety of input and output voltages, assuring a reliable and dependable reference design,” said Rami Hamze, senior marketing manager for IR’s DC-DC Standard Computing Products.

Technical Highlights

The IRPP3624-05A, optimized for low-current applications up to 5A, achieves 88.5% efficiency with 12V input and 3.3V output. The IRPP3624-12A, targeting medium-current applications up to 12A, achieves 84% efficiency with 12V input and 1.8V output at maximum load.

The IRPP3624-05A uses a dual SO-8 MOSFET, the IRF8910PBF, to reduce size and component count. The IRF7823PBF and IRF7832ZPBF SO-8 MOSFETs utilized in the IRPP3624-12A allow higher current due to improved thermal and electrical efficiency.
