The MLX90616ESF-HCA infrared thermopile sensor uses proprietary dual-sensor stabilization technology to reduce its stabilization period to less than half a minute. It is particularly useful for high-end thermometer guns, which typically have stabilization periods of up to half an hour, or other lensed devices that can be subject to rapid environmental temperature changes when in use.
The sensor measures object temperatures to 1,030°C max, and is factory calibrated for ambient temperatures of −40°C to 85°C. The sensor, which comes with an 8- to 12-µm optical filter for integration in thermometer guns, uses integrated electronics to calculate object temperature based on internal temperature, thermopile output, and calibration data stored in EEPROM by the thermometer manufacturer. Calculated object and ambient temperatures are available with 0.02°C resolution via an 2-wire SMBus-compatible protocol or 10-bit PWM output. The sensor comes in a standard 4-pin TO-39 package.
