While most consumers feel that flip phones have served their purpose in smartphone history, Samsung believes the device is ready to live a second life. Per various media outlets, the Korean company has an updated version of this antiquated technology ready for launch.
According to Sammobile, the company’s new flip phone will be called “SM-W2016”. It will feature two 3.9-inches, 1280×768-pixel displays, with each one sitting on either side of the phone’s cover. When the phone is opened, the lower half will feature a numeric keypad, circa-1999.
The SM-W2016 will run Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop), and everything will be powered by the phone’s octa-core Exynos 7420 processor. It will also have 3GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and two cameras—one a primary 16-megapixel camera, and the other a 5-megapixel secondary option.
In total, the phone weighs 204 grams and has dimensions of 120.4 x 61 x 15.1mm.
No word on when the Samsung SM-W2016 will actually be available for purchase, let alone where.
